Department of Biology

Biology Courses

Welcome to the Department of Biology at Mercer University!  We offer two majors, a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts, both of which emphasize the role of a liberal arts education in enhancing the personal and professional development of our students.  Coursework and laboratory experiences leading to a degree in Biology provide Mercer students the opportunity to learn about our world's complex and dynamic living sphere.

Faculty in the department help students achieve a broad range of expertise within the life sciences including anatomy, physiology, genetics, microbiology, ecology and the natural history of animals and plants.  In addition, a wide range of opportunities exist for interested students to perform independent research projects in small, faculty-led lab groups.  With this strong educational background in hand, many of our students go on to successful placements in various professional and graduate schools, as well as careers in the biological sciences.
